Objectives
The CIDOC CRM model
has reached a sufficient level of maturity to justify its consideration
as a potential international standard. In consequence it has
been accepted by ISO/TC46 as published standard ISO 21127:2006 in 12/09/2006. The aim
of the thematic network supported by the CHIOS project is to
support the ISO normalisation process and ensure that the CRM
is appropriately completed and adopted as international standard
by:
- providing an open and balanced mechanism
that enables stakeholder participation in the standardisation
process
- ensuring that stakeholders are satisfied
that the CRM meets their needs, elaborating proposals for extensions
or modifications where necessary
- ensuring that CRM documentation is clear,
consistent and of the quality needed for ISO acceptance
- participating in the ISO process
- building wide consensus, encouraging
diffusion and acceptance of CRM
Relationship to relevant standardization initiatives
The CHIOS consortium forms an integral
part of the CIDOC CRM Special Interest
Group which, by organizing shared meetings, represents the interests
and requirements of the cultural heritage community to the ISO
Working Group (ISO/TC46/SC4/WG9).
The CIDOC CRM aims to provide a common ontology for the conceptualizations
implicit in various data standards and formats in order to enable
for the cultural heritage community:
