Dr. Andrew Jones is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Cardiff
University, UK. He received his PhD in 1992, working in the area of Object-Oriented
systems, and subsequently worked on Active Object-Oriented Databases. More
recently he has specialised in Biodiversity Informatics. He has worked on the
LITCHI project, funded by the UK BBSRC/EPSRC Bioinformatics Panel, which was
concerned with using constraints to detect and resolve conflicts in taxonomic
checklists; the SPICE for Species 2000 project, funded by the BBSRC/EPSRC Bioinformatics
Panel, which has been concerned with building a federated catalogue of life,
and the GRAB project, funded by the UK DTI, which has been concerned with demonstrating
how sources of differing kinds of data relevant to biodiversity research could
be brought together on the GRID in order to solve complex biodiversity-related
questions. He is currently involved in the BBSRC-funded BiodiversityWorld project,
which has recently commenced. In this project a GRID-based biodiversity problem-solving
environment is being built. He is also involved in two new EU-funded biodiversity
informatics projects -- EuroCat and ENBI. |
