John Perkins is Executive Director of CIMI, the Consortium for the Interchange of Museum Information (http://www.cimi.org). This is a group of the world's most prestigious museums, technology companies, libraries and national museum networks working to advance museum digital intelligence through standards, research, testing, training and international collaboration. Current interests are in the area of digital information object management and interchange, metadata harvesting, and distributed searching, mobile computing, Digital Cultural Heritage Online, and content architecture for Semantic Web applications.

In addition to CIMI, John operates MuseInfo, a Nova Scotia-based company specializing in museum research, consulting, strategic planning, project management, and technology assessments in the areas of museum digital information management, standards, and metadata.

Prior to founding CIMI, he was Director, of Client Operations for a software firm dedicated to museum collections information management systems, and prior to that directed the international, Conservation Information Network, with subscribers in 23 countries for the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI) in Los Angeles, California.

John writes and teaches on museum information management and technology. He currently serves on a number of editorial and advisory boards.
